School Based Behaviour Support

At Lighthouse Learning, we strongly believe that all children with Autism are entitled to an education that supports their individual learning and sensory needs, an education where their unique differences are valued and where the curriculum is differentiated to ensure their learning is positive and successful.

We believe that the neurodiversity movement has been critical in reframing the way people view Autistic individuals within our society and we are here to advocate for the importance of having neurodiversity represented in every aspect of our schooling environment and culture.

Our goal is to support and train school staff in how to best support your child’s individual needs so that they can feel safe and supported in their schooling environment.

We can do this by:

  1. Attending student ILP meetings and advocating for the student’s needs
  2. Meeting with school staff and providing coaching on how to best support students with Autism.
  3. Providing comprehensive, individualised behaviour support services

Individualised behaviour support services:

  • Meeting with school staff to discuss their concerns about your child at school
  • Conducting behavioural observations and functional behaviour assessments to determine the function of the behaviours that are presenting
  • Collaborating with school staff to develop individual positive behaviour support plans that address skills deficits, students motivations and sensory needs
  • Training school staff in how to collect and analyse data to ensure the behaviour plan is successful
  • Follow up meetings to evaluate if the plan is successfully addressing the student’s needs and teaching them new skills to enable them to be happier, calmer and more in control of their learning
